Your Personal HI-HAT Universe

The Hi-Hat: Humble in name, impossibly vital to the groove. It's the rhythmic thread that elevates a beat from ordinary to unforgettable.

Welcome to F9 HAT!, the third instalment in our acclaimed Argon Drums series, where we've poured exhaustive expertise into crafting the ultimate hi-hat collection for contemporary producers.

Building on the foundation of our chart-topping F9 KICK! and F9 SNARE! volumes, F9 HAT! delivers an encyclopedic array of hi-hats sampled with precision, passion, and unparalleled depth.

This release contains:

  • 1,800+ Digital Hi-Hats: A vast sonic palette spanning contemporary crispness, vintage warmth, experimental FX, and resampled rarities. We hacked the TR-909 playback circuit using custom-burnt EPROMs for that legendary club punch, and injected new sampling into a Linndrum, Casio RZ-1, Kawai R-100, and Korg DDD-1. We've even revisited the Commodore Amiga's iconic sampling for authentic 8-bit 12bit and 16bit flair thanks to rare sampling carts from the late 80s. Other highlights include Foley-layered experiments, Haas-spread spatial effects, and genre-defining staples that cover everything from clean and clinical to distorted and daring.
  • 22 Live Hi-Hats: Captured in pristine sessions at the acoustically stunning Salvation Studios in West Brighton and F9 HQ. Each set features 8 dynamic articulations (closed, mid-open, open, and more) with 8x round-robin variations for organic, human feel. These hats add soul and realism, perfect for injecting life into programmed rhythms.
  • 11 Live Lo-Fi Hi-Hats: A bonus mono ribbon mic capture from the same sessions, delivering crusty, vintage textures ideal for lo-fi breaks, hip-hop, or subtle stereo movement without muddying your top-end. These gritty variants open up endless creative possibilities for retro-inspired productions.
  • 121 Synth Hi-Hats: Not just the 808, 606 classics (although we have these in abundance), we carefully sourced and multisampled analog and digital synthesiser based hi hats  with lost classics (Boss DR110, Yamaha MR-10) as well as the full gamut of modern examples, Brute rhythms, Eurorack innovation and dedicated analog rhythm machines from the 21st century - all samples with 8x round-robin layers, offering more choice, unique tone and inspiration than any other collection.
  • 180+ Patches, Menus, and Articulation Tools: Fully mapped instruments with intuitive GUIs, macro controls, and MIDI files for effortless integration. Selector patches let you audition flavours on the fly, while custom envelopes, EQs, compression, and effects (including impulse responses) provide the best starting point possible.

F9 HAT! Halion Sonic GUI Interface

Halion Sonic & Kontakt instruments

For years, we have developed for Kontakt, and we are now thrilled to announce that this is the first F9 release with near-identical functionality in Halion Sonic.

If you're unfamiliar, Halion Sonic is a free VST rompler plug-in available at steinberg.net. Halion has always matched Kontakt sonically, but development complexity has, until now, held us (and others) back slightly.

After some excellent breakthroughs, we are very pleased to provide a full-featured Halion Sonic library for any DAW user as part of this release.

All sampling platforms have their own quirks, so please watch the instructional videos on this site, showing you the features and tricks of how to use it.

This marks the beginning of another leap forward for us at F9. Please keep an eye on our developments for Halion Sonic.

Serum 2 Patches

Thanks to XFER records inclusion of SFZ sample mapping (and most importantly the ability to use round robin SFZ patches),  we have been able to load the entire library into a Preset bank for Serum 2

We found during all of the audio demos that Serum shines majestically on the synthetic high hats, and of course you have all of the modulation options available for some frankly, incredible sound design adventures.

Audio Demos:

This pack contains Hi hats and sampler instruments. The music in the audio demos is for demonstration only and is not included in the pack.
